Water can on Bärenplatz fountain
The Bärenplatz fountain has stood in the middle of Bärenplatz since 1901.
The fountain, which consists of a basin and a stick, was built in 1840 according to the plans by architect Beat Rudolf von Sinner , and was manufactured and delivered by the stonemason Bargetzi in Solothurn in 1839 and installed in place of the former Waisenhausplatz fountain . The basin is an octagonal bowl with neo-Gothic tracery jewelry . On the side facing Spitalgasse , the year 1840 is chiseled as a Roman number MDCCCXXXX in fracture . The floor consists of an octagonal pedestal with four crossed well tubes, cast by Escher, Wyss & Ciein Zurich and a column with round bars and a canopy - capital . The basin and cane are made of white Solothurn shell limestone .
